Basila is a joint PhD student between the Baldridge and Ragunathan labs ( She received her BSc and MSc degrees in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, India. For her master’s thesis, she worked on the modification-dependent restriction enzyme, methylated cytosine restriction B and C (McrBC) complex, which recognizes a methylated cytosine next to a purine base. Her current project is aimed at understanding the ERAD system using single-molecule approaches.
